Volkswagen Touran Owners Manual: Introduction

This chapter contains information on the following subjects:

 → Warning and indicator lamps

 → Information on steering

The power assistance is not hydraulic. It is an electro-mechanical system. The advantage of this steering system is that no hydraulic hoses, hydraulic oil, pumps, filter or other parts are required. The electro-mechanical system reduces fuel consumption. A hydraulic system requires constant oil pressure in the system; an electro-mechanical steering system, however, needs energy only while steering.

With the electromechanical steering system, the steering assistance is automatically matched to vehicle speed, the steering wheel torque and the steering wheel angle. The electro-mechanical steering functions only when the engine is running.

Additional information and warnings:

WARNING
