Volkswagen Touran Owners Manual: Switching the auxiliary heater on or off

First read and observe the introductory information and safety warnings

Switching on the auxiliary heater:  
Manually with the immediate heat button in the air conditioning system.
ON Manually with the remote control.
  Automatically with a programmed and activated switch-on time.
Switching off the auxiliary heater:  
Manually with the immediate heat button in the air conditioning system.
OFF Manually with the remote control.
  Automatically after the set period has elapsed.
  Automatically if the indicator lamp lights up (fuel level).
  Automatically if the charge level of the vehicle battery is too low.

Things to note

The auxiliary heater runs on for a short time after it is switched off so that the fuel remaining in the system can be burnt off. The exhaust gases in the system can also be emitted.
